MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app diary day 34 Can Ubaldo Jimenez Carry the Rockies

Posted by Drew Zeitlin.:

Hello Everybody. In our last post, we wanted to look back at the first month of the season and our predictions that we made before the season started. We started in the A.L. East. The problem we had at the start of the season is that we were coming off a twelve year absence of baseball and did not know the players at all. After thirty some days with MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app we know the players much better although we are still way behind but at least we have a clue. It is time to pick up the diary for the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app once again. Today will be day 34. Today we thought the N.L. West would be a good place to continue.

The prediction at the start of the season we had the Rockies winning the division, the Giants coming in second, with the Dodgers coming in third, and the Diamond Backs and Padres bringing up the rear. After one month our thoughts on this division is a mess. Anybody can win this division and everybody has a chance to finish last. Whoever gets hot will probably win this division. We are going to stick with the Rockies to win this division. With everything being equal you have to go with the home team, and we think everything is equal and so we go with the home team. The Rockies biggest plus is the pitching of Ubaldo Jimenez. Right now he is 5-0 with an ERA of 0.79 and a no hitter. They have good hitting and were in the pennant race last year and won the wild card race. Knowing how to win is a big help. We are going to stick with the Giants for second. They have great starting pitching but their hitting is very week. Anytime you can send out Lincecum, Zito, and Sanchez you should contend and maybe the wild card will be theirs. Could the Dodgers win the division last year and then finish in last the next year? It is possible they are really struggling in April. The Diamond Backs and Padres are young and enthusiastic and that can carry you. Pitching is the key and do these two teams have enough of it? Who knows. It is a long season and teams without pitching usually do not fair well. As we said this division is toss up and the team that gets hot will probably win this division. So we are going to put the Diamond Backs in third, the Padres fourth and the Dodgers in last. We bet we regret that pick, but bad predictions are part of baseball.

As we have mentioned The MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app continues to impress us. One of the other features that we really like and use all the time is the Summary. It allows us to see the play by play of an active game or go back and see the play by play of game that has been completed. This helps us keep track of what is going on other games that we are not listening to or that we have missed. There are a lot of games going on. The Summary also allows us just to check the scoring of a particular game both active and completed games. Another big plus in keeping track of what is going on in baseball. MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app diary day 32 Mariano Rivera Is The Best

Posted by Drew Zeitlin.:

Hello everybody. With the first month of the season about to be put in the books, we thought it might be interesting to go back and look at some of our predictions at that start season that we made when we just knew who the base coaches and the announcers were. We have been listening to at least one game a day and usually two games a day and watching and following baseball like we use too. By no means are we back to the knowledge that we use to have of baseball, but we are lot better that we were when the season started. It is time to pick up the diary for the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app once again. Today will be day 32. Today we thought the A.L. East would be a good place to start.

Our prediction at the start of the season was the Yankees winning the division, the Rays coming in second, then the Red Sox, Orioles and then the Blue Jays. After a month of baseball we still think the Yankees will win the division but we really like the Rays team and it would not surprise us of the Rays would win the division. The difference in our opinion is the bullpen. This is the Rays weakest part of their team and the Yankees are really good in the bullpen. Of course the Yankees have Mariano Rivera as their closer and no team has a Mariano Rivera on their team. He is the best. The Rays have some very good players and as we have mentioned in a past post Carl Crawford maybe the best player in the majors. He puts pressure on the opposing team. He produces runs and he prevents runs. From some reason the Red Sox's line up just seems to be not as good as the Yankees and the Rays. They do have good players but no Crawford and no Rivera and it looks like third place for them. We are making a switch at the bottom of the division. This stems from the Orioles collapse in April. They have been very bad and have lost every which way you can loose. It will be a long season for the Birds. The Blue Jays have a good team but they are in the wrong division. Do not see how over 162 games they can compete with the Yankees and or Rays, maybe they can challenge the Red Sox for third.

The MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app continues to impress us. We love listening to the games and getting a different perspective from different announcers. We also like watching the in game highlights. We do not seem to miss any of the action. It is great. As we write this blog post we are listening to the Dodgers and Mets. If you like to read all the post of this diary click here and you will be taken to our blog where you will see all the post in order. Till next time.

MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app diary day 28 A Triple Play and 20-0 rout

Posted by Drew Zeitlin.:

Hello everybody. It seems strange not have some exciting or new or different news to report on this diary. It was fun playing can you top this and seemed like we could all week. However, we knew we were not going to top abullrun's dad and Goose Gossage story. It is time to pick up the diary for the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app once again. Today will be day 28. It isn't that we have no exciting news it is just more in the main stream news. Or do we? We were listening to the Yankees and A's game when the Yankees turned a triple play. That triple play was the first one for the Yankees in over 40 years. We caught a couple of innings of the Brewers 20-0 win over the Pirates. The worse lost at home for the Pirates ever. We were sad to see the total collapse of the Baltimore Orioles. They are already 13 games under 500 and have only won 2 games in the first 17 games of the season. We have been listening to a lot of New York Yankees games and we can definitely see why and how they won the World Series last year and why they are probably the favorites for 2010.

We are going to turn our attention more to the MLB.com At bat 2010 iPhone app. One of the best thing this app offers is to keep yourself updated on the game you are listening to. Besides the audio feed you get Gameday, the running box score, the summary, and in game videos. These features are great if you miss something in the game you are listening to, you can find out what happened. It is really good when you are listening to one game and you can follow many games that are playing at the same time. Like tonight we were able to listen to the Yankees and the Angels game and we followed the Giants and Cardinals game. We were interested in follow the two time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum pursuit of win number 4. Lincecum accomplished his mission and won his fourth game and his ERA is now at 1.00. Wow that is good. We followed that game on Gameday and listen to John and Susan on WCBS give the play by play of the Yankees and Angeles at the same time. Wow that is good too.

Since the MLB.com At Bat 2010 is the number one sports app in Apple's iTunes store, there is a free weekend of MLB.TV on At Bat 2010. It sounds like we can watch all the games on the iPhone this week except for the Rockies game. They are always blacked out to us because we live in Colorado. It also sounds like it will be one fun weekend of baseball. We are looking forward to it. If you like to read all the post of this diary click here and you will be taken to our blog where you will see all the post in order. Till next time.

MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app diary day 26 Rich Goose Gossage is Great

Posted by Drew Zeitlin.:

Hello everybody. This might have been the most exciting week we have ever had in baseball. As we have told you in past posts we were at Coors Field to watch the Rockies and the Mets on Jackie Robinson Day. You can see a video of our trip to Coors Field on Jackie Robinson Day by clicking here. That was followed up by us watching the first no hitter in Colorado Rockies history by Ubaldo Jimenez. Then Co-founder of abullrun and all around good guy Keith Zeitlin and brother to this blog writer caught a foul ball that we have been looking to catch since the 70's. Well, we were able to top all that at the Willie Nelson concert. It is time to pick up the diary for the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app once again. Today will be day 26.

Before we tell you how the Willie Nelson concert tops our best baseball week of all time, we want to tell you about Rich Goose Gossage. Rich Gossage is from Colorado Springs and is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. He played played 22 seasons from 1972 to 1994 for nine different teams, spending his best years with the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres. To see more about Gossage please click here and you will be taken to his Wikipedia page. Growing up in Colorado Springs and playing baseball we all followed Gossage. Goose has always been a big Colorado Springs guy when he was playing and after he retired. He is involved in the community and especially with youth sports.

abullrun's dad works at the Colorado Springs World Arena. The World Arena is like a civic center for the city. It is the home of Colorado College Hockey Tigers and where all the concerts and special events are played at. Last Monday Willie Nelson had a concert at the World Arena. abullrun's dad worked the concert. Here is the e-mail that abullrun's dad sent to abullrun after the concert.

Tonight at the Penrose Club at the World Arena, we had a huge dinner for the Penrose Club members, and it was for the Willie Nelson Concert that was going on in the arena. I was told by Verlee that there is a gentleman that's waiting outside the club looking for you and that you two go way back, at least 20 years is what he said. When I went back to the club, I was in SHOCK!! It was non other then my buddy Goose (Rich) Gossage! WOW!!!!!!!!!! He hugged me and I hugged him back of course. We talked about the old days and then he said he wanted a picture of him and me together! Another WOW!!

There you have it. A Baseball Hall of Famer wants a picture with you. You don't get that everyday. That picture is at the top of this blog (Gossage is the one with the mustache). Thank you Rich Gossage. We are really having fun with baseball. If you like to read all the post of this diary click here and you will be taken to our blog where you will see all the post in order. MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app diary day 24 We Caught Our First Foul Ball

Posted by Drew Zeitlin.:

Hello everybody. It has been a wild and crazy weekend of baseball for abullrun. On Thursday we attended our first Major League baseball game in over 10 years. We had a lot of fun at the ball park that day. Unfortunately the Rockies lost that game 5-0. You can see a video of our trip to Coors Field on Jackie Robinson Day by clicking here. It is time to pick up the diary for the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app once again. Today will be day 24. On this post we are going to talk about how we have expanded how we follow baseball outside of the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app. On Saturday we were following the games on the iPhone and noticed that Ubaldo Jimenez was pitching for the Rockies. When he pitches the Rockies have a great chance of winning the game. After getting some other stuff done, we landed up watching the Rockies, Braves game with abullrun's dad. That was a good game to watch. Ubaldo Jimenez pitched the first no hit game in Rockies history. He was awesome! He threw a couple of pitches over 100 mph and in the 9th he had pitches clocked at 97 mph. His curve was so good that you could see it break on TV. Wow to see a no hitter is very rare and we got to see it in April and pitched by a Rockies pitcher.

You would think wow you can not top that. Some how we did. We topped it at a more personal level. Most likely you not going to see another no-hitter and we did not. Before our twelve year absences from the game we had watch a lot of baseball games at the major and minor league and had never caught a foul ball. Well that streak ended on Sunday. Co-founder of abullrun and all around good guy Keith Zeitlin and brother to this blog writer caught that foul ball that we have been looking for since the 70's. The foul ball was caught at Sky Sox Stadium in the second game of a double hitter between the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (AAA team of the Colorado Rockies) and Las Vegas. That is him in the picture at the top of this post and the photo was taken by our niece Brandi Zeitlin. We are having fun with baseball again. If you like to read all the post of this diary click here and you will be taken to our blog where you will see all the post in order. Till next time.

MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app diary day 19 Carl Crawford Is a Very Good Player

Posted by Drew Zeitlin.:

Hello everybody. We watched our second full game on the iPhone yesterday. A very entertaining game between the Pirates and the Giants. We just set the iPhone next to the computer watched the game and got a lot of work done. It is time to pick up the diary for the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app once again. Today will be day 19. We have seen two full games on the iPhone but we have watched a couple of innings of most of the games that MLB.com At Bat 2010 has offered. After one week the report card is that the quality has been quite good. We have been using wi-fi and keeping the iPhone plugged in. Not sure the battery will last a full game. On the occasion that we have to use the 3-G network, the quality is not quite as good on the wi-fi but not bad and have enjoyed watching a couple of innings here and there on 3-G.

What we have really used and what we really like is the audio feeds. First we receive the audio feeds of every game and we get to choose which teams feeds that we would like to listen too. As the days schedule starts you have the opportunity to listen to day games or night games or late games from the west coast. This gives us the chance to listen to three full games in one day if we are inclined to do so, or skip around and catch the action of several games at the same time. In the first week we have been inclined to listen to the full game. The radio announcers are much more likely to talk about the players more than the TV announcers, and that helps us out, since we need information on who these players are. By listening to the entire game you get a much better feel about the team, the players, and the manager. If you get to listen to a series, you really get a feel for both teams. Usually we pick one team's radio station and listen to them talk about their team and players. In one week our knowledge of the players have increased a thousand fold. It is safe to say we now know more players than coaches. The audio feed is much better when you are working. It is like having music in the background except much more entertaining. Another reason we like the audio feed is that we can bike and listen to the game at the same time. You can not beat exercise and baseball can you?

After the first week of play here is some thoughts. We have been very impressed with the Tampa Bay Rays. They have a great line-up and a lot of hustle players. We have been very impressed with Carl Crawford. He really can do it all. He has power, he has speed, and he has defense. He can produce runs and he can prevent runs. We also like the Yankees, and we have seen why they are the defending champions. The AL East should produce a very good pennant race this year. Speaking of the AL East, we hate to report but it looks like it could be a very long year for the Orioles. Especially in baseball one game of a hundred and sixty-two games and game four of the season should not be that big of a thing. It does look like the way they lost their home opener really took the wind out of their sails. Our last thought of the week is that we are sure glad we purchased MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app. We had one fun week.

MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app diary day 17 Welcome to the Show Mike Leake

Posted by Drew Zeitlin.:

Hello everybody. What a weekend of baseball we just had. We started off with the home openers for the Rockies and the Orioles and finished up with the first ever game at Target Field in Minnesota. It is time to pick up the diary for the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app once again. Today will be day 17. In the last four days we have played can you top this. It all started on Friday when we listened to the home openers for the Rockies and the Orioles. We detailed those games in our last post on this diary. We could call it day and be very happy with those two games, but we did not call it. That night we listened to the Yankees and the Rays (diffidently two of the better teams in the American League). What a day, you don't get a day like that in baseball to often or do you?

On Saturday we started our day on WCBS listening to John Sterling describe the second game between the Yankees and Rays. You knew it would be good game but you never could have imagine listening to a no hitter. We did not get that no hitter but we did get 7 2/3 of no hit ball by Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia. Some great defensive plays by the Yankees kept the no hitter alive for the last three innings. After that game we snuck in the rest of the Orioles and Blue Jays game. It only gets worse for the Orioles. In this game the winning run for the Blue Jays came from the Orioles hitting a batter with the bases loaded. We then switched and listened to the Rockies and Padres playing at Coors Field in Colorado. What a game it had a little of everything including extra innings. They played 14 innings and unfortunately the home team did not win. What a day.

On Sunday we started in Cincinnati listening to Reds announcer Marty Brennamam describe the action between the Cubs and the Reds. The significance of this game was the professional and Major League debut Mike Leake. Leake became the 21st player since the Draft began in 1965 to make his debut without appearing in a Minor League game. He is the first player since Xavier Nady did it 2000 for the Padres. He pitched very good. Leake pitched 6 2/3 gave up 4 hits and gave up only 1 run and went 2-2 at the plate. Not bad, not bad at all. After seeing the Braves and the Giants in a 4 hour rain delay and that the were going to play Sunday night and not Sunday afternoon, we jumped on the opportunity to listen to that game. The key reason was we wanted to hear Tim Lincecum pitch, (he has won the last two NL Cy Young Awards). He did not disappoint. He pitched 7 innings, had 10 strike outs (it seemed they were all on change ups) he won the game and is now 2-0 with an ERA of 1.29. He maybe ready to win his 3rd straight NL Cy Young. What a day.

On Monday it was a couple of home openers that caught our attention. First we checked out Wrigley Field with the game between the Brewers and the Cubs. It was the 95th home opener at Wrigley Field. Just think of that. The Cubs have played at Wrigley Field for 95 years. The home team sent the fans home happy with a 9-5 victory. The Cubs had this game in hand and allowed us the chance to switch to the Red Sox and Twins game. We always like to listen to first games at new ball parks. It was the debut of Target Field. Of course when you open a new ball park everybody wants to know who got the first hit (Marco Scutaro of the Red Sox) and who got the first home run (Jason Kubel of the Twins). Just like the Cubs the home team sent their fans home happy. What a day.

Growing up we dreamed about having a baseball weekend like this. The only thing different in our dreams back then, was the Orioles would win all 4 games instead of losing all 4 games. Till next time.

MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app diary day 15 A Tale of Two Cities

Posted by Drew Zeitlin.:

Hello everybody. It is a tale of two cities, two baseball teams, two home openers, and it was the best of times and it was the worst of times or it is just baseball. It is time to pick up the diary for the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app once again. Today will be day 15. Wow did we have a good time with baseball on Friday. It was a classic tale of two cities yesterday. The first city is Baltimore. It has been a long time since the Orioles have contended for the playoffs. They have made some good moves over the years and this year looks like they will be improved. The problem is that they are in the same division as the Yankees, Rays, Red Sox and most likely the best they can hope for is fourth place but just maybe everything comes together and they stay in the race till September. The second team is Denver. The Rockies were in the World Series in 2007 and the playoffs in 2009. They have been picked by some to win the division, and some to make it to the World Series. The Rockies are expected to contend all year.

Friday was the home opener for both teams. One team celebrated with their fans and the other team suffered a gut wrenching lost. It was the best of times for the Rockies. They beat the Padres 7-0 and their starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa pitched 7 inning and gave up only one hit and every position player got a hit. The fans were stoked and they went home happy with the World Series dancing in their dreams. It was the worst of times for the Orioles. They lost to the Blue Jays 7-6 with the Orioles taking a 6-5 lead going to the 9th. The O's brought in their new closer Mike Gonzalez to start the 9th inning. On opening day Gonzalez came in the game in a very similar situation and Tampa Bay rallied for 2 in the 9th and the Orioles lost. The only game the Orioles won he loaded the bases and was lucky to get a victory. Now he comes in the home opener and the fans are going wild. He walks the first batter and then wild pitches him to second. The next batter then doubles to center scoring the tying run. After the Jays sacrificed the runner to third with a bunt, they put the winning run on the board with a sacrifice fly. The cheers turned to boos and the air seemed to be let out of the ball park. The fans went home frustrated, disappointed and thinking it was going to be a lot like the last couple of years with a lot of losses. The Orioles' announcers were even talking about how gut wrenching this loss was.

It just seems like baseball to us. As we look at the standings we see that we have only played 4 games of 162 games only 158 games to go. We also notice that if the Orioles win on Saturday and if the Rockies lose on Saturday they will have the same record. We also noticed that Trevor Hoffman (he has the most saves in baseball history) gave up the lead on Saturday and the Brewers lost, and Billy Wagner (he is a very good closer) also was unable to close out the game for the Braves on Saturday. It can look worse than it is when you have not won in a long time and the Orioles have not won in a long time. Living in Colorado we saw last year the Rockies had one of the worse records in baseball in May and they went to the playoffs. We tell the Oriole fans, "it is a long way to October and anything can happen. Don't loose the hope". Till next time.

MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app diary day 13 Hi Hello and Welcome George Grande

Posted by Drew Zeitlin.:

Hello everybody. We can put it on the board YES. On Tuesday we watch the first baseball game from first pitch to last pitch in fourteen years. Get this, it was the Orioles that we got to watch. What a treat. It is time to pick up the diary for the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app once again. Today will be day 13. It was a great opening day game between the Orioles and the Rays in Tampa. We were ready, had the iPhone plugged in, did not want the battery to go out, had the wi-fi going, we wanted the best picture possible, and we had the iPhone propped up for the best viewing possible, remember we are talking a small screen here. When abullrun was growing up, outside of watching the Orioles play in the World Series, watching the Orioles playing on opening day was one of the things we really wanted to see. That was not going to happen when you grow up in Colorado and root for team that plays in Baltimore. However we did get to watch an opening day game played by the Orioles. It just took many more years than one would think, an iPhone and MLB.com At Bat 2010. The game was close the whole way through. There was good pitching, good defense, and good hitting. The Orioles were leading most of the way till the Rays scored 2 runs in the bottom of the ninth and won the game. It was a game that has been seen many times. One team has a lead and has a lots of opportunity to score more runs but somehow lets that opportunity slip by and the other team finds a way to win. Usually the better team finds that way to win. Growing up the Orioles would have found that way to win this game. Unfortunately those players are retired now and either coaching or broadcasting.

The quality of the game was great. We could see everything clearly and enjoyed watching the game from the iPhone. Actually it might have been more enjoyable by using MLB.com At Bat 2010. When you tap the iPhone there is a menu that comes up and gives you a choice if you would like to see out of town scores, or if you would like to see the current box scores, or see the park and the defensive line up. It was great, during the commercials we would tap the screen and see what the out of town scores were. Of course the Rockies game was going on at the same time and we were able to keep updated on how they were doing. Although there is interest in all the games, the Yankees and Red Sox were playing another good game and we were able to keep tabs on that game as well. Overall we liked watching Major League Baseball on the iPhone.

One of the great features you get with MLB.com At Bat 2010 is the in game highlights. Not all the video clips you get are of the action. Sometimes they you bring you a clip of somebody who visits the booth who is well known. On Monday from Cincinnati we got 2 nine minute clips of such an event. The first clip featured George Grande who use to do the play by play for the Reds for over 17 years. We will always remember watching George Grande on ESPN in the early years (he hosted the very first broadcast of SportsCenter on ESPN in 1979) and had one of the great into's "Hi, Hello and Welcome". The second clip featured Hall of Famer Johnny Bench. It was very nice to see, hear, and to find out what he is doing these days. It really added to the fun of baseball that we have had since we have picked up this app. However the in game highlights mostly give you the in game highlights and did they give us one on Monday. Chicago White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle made one of the most spectacular defensive plays you will ever see. After chasing the ball that hits him in foul ground he flips the ball to the first baseman between his legs and Paul Konerko the first baseman for the White Sox catches the flip with his bare hand to get the put out. It maybe the only time an out was recorded when one person threw the ball with his glove and the other person caught it with his throwing had. Click here and you will be taken to MLB.com to see this clip. Till next time.

MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app diary day 11 Wow and Joshua Sacco

Posted by Drew Zeitlin.:

Hello everybody. Wow what can we say. It was an unbelievable 24 hours of baseball. It is time to pick up the diary for the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app once again. Today will be day 11. This iphone app from Major League Baseball is awesome. Sure wish we had this technology when I was kid. We start from Opening Night on Sunday. It was only the Yankees and the Red Sox at Fenway Park. With all the pop and circumstance that the Red Sox and MLB put out, it was like the Academy Awards. That game was not on MLB.com At Bat 2010 free tv game so we settled for listening to the game on WCBS out of New York. We didn't really settle we got to listen to the great John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman (click on their names and you will be taken to their Wikipedia page for more information on them). They did an outstanding job and we were very informed and very entertained. Most of the credit has to go to the Yankees and Red Sox they played a very entertaining and exciting game.

Now lets talk about MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app. Wow this iPhone app was impressive through out this game. First we were able to listen to the game and we had the choice between which broadcast to listen to either the Red Sox broadcast or the Yankees broadcast. Then they delivered us Gameday which gave us pitch by pitch play by play. We also had a live box score and up to date stats. Then they delivered in game highlights. There would be highlights of any big play from the game and we could see it about an inning later. That was very cool. It was the first game in about 14 years that we had listen or watched from the first inning to the last inning. We were impressed and we had a good time.

The next day it was opening day for almost every other team not named Red Sox or Yankees. The free TV game was the Phillies and the Nationals. We watched the first 4 innings and the Nationals were hanging in and even had a 1-0 lead for a while. The pitcher for the Philles was Roy Halladay (from Colorado) he is good and shut them down the rest of the way. The reason we left the game after the 4th inning was to listen to the Colorado Rockies play the Milwaukee Brewers. That too was a good game to listen to and we watch highlights from the other games that were being played at the same time. It felt like we were everywhere and missing nothing. We did listen to the Rockies game from the first pitch to the last pitch, making it the 2nd game we have listen from start to finish in 14 years. It does look like the Rockies have a good team but we have 161 more games to play.

Wanted to finish up with more of the pop and circumstance from opening night. The Red Sox had Pedro Martinez throw out the first pitch. They had Neil Diamond come out on the field and sang "Sweet Caroline". We know this because they were part of the in game highlights that MLB.com At Bat 2010 showed us. They also showed us a crowd-moving opening speech delivered by five year-old Joshua Sacco, of YouTube fame. Last year he did a rendition of Herb Brooks’s (played by Kurt Russell) speech from the 2004 movie Miracle that landed on YouTube that was watched by many people. This time he switched some words to make it play for baseball and the Red Sox and Yankees. We thought it was great. Click here to see the video of the speech from Mashable on opening night and his original speech from last year and Kurt Russell speech that started everything. Till next time.

MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app diary day 9 Mike Cuellar RIP

Posted by Drew Zeitlin.:

Hello everybody. It is time to pick up the diary for the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app once again. Today will be day 9 and we are less than an hour away from opening day or should that be opening night. It is going to be big Yankees vs Red Sox or is it just one game at of 162 games and it is a long way to October. Either way it will be fun tonight. Yesterday we had an update for MLB.com At Bat 2010. The update was to enhanced MLB.TV featuring box score, field, and player overlays. We saw a little of this today with the free TV game (There was one last spring training game). It does enhance the game but not sure it will be used a lot. There looks like there will be a need for some experimenting once the regular season gets underway. We are looking at trying it out tomorrow with the free TV game. The next update is that there is a Today's TV schedule which was added to the video section. We like this a lot, however if in a perfect world we would like to see a TV schedule for a week at a time. This would give us a chance to know what the free game is and what time the game is so we can plan accordingly. The next update is the that the Current Matchup component added to Team view. Not sure what this is, we could not find it. Anybody out there that know please let us know. The last update is that Gameday Audio reliability has been improved. That sounds great (get the pun).

We did not post for days 7 and 8. This was because not much was happening in the last couple of days of spring training and we were really busy covering the launch of the iPad in Colorado Springs. It was a lot of fun and we hope you enjoyed the video that we posted to this blog yesterday. What we did want to pass on was that we listen to a Rockies, Cubs game for the first five innings before they pull the starters out. The game was on WGN radio in Chicago. The big take away was that we heard Ron Santo for the first time. He was great, he had us laughing and entertained us quite well. We look forward to listening to him again. We were also able to see the first inning of the first game in the Twins new ballpark called Target Field. abullrun was out and about that day but we were able to find a place to sit and we pulled out the iPhone and launched the MLB.com At Bat 2010 and watched the historic first game on the iPhone with a 3G connection. The quality of the stream was great. It was like watching it on TV except on a smaller screen, but to watch it when we were out was truly great.

The last thing we wanted to mention was the passing of all time great pitcher Mike Cuellar. He was best known for being part of the Baltimore Orioles pitching staff that in 1971 where all 4 member of the staff won 20 games. Today that is almost impossible of course that was almost impossible in any day an age and that is why that is such a special accomplishment. Click here and you will be taken to a great article about him from Yahoo Sports.

Looks like the game is blacked out on the iPhone tonight so hopefully we will listen to the game from the iPhone on WCBS. As we mentioned in a past post, we love listening to John Sterling and look forward to his call. Till next time.
