It Is Time For Another Bad Joke One Good Deed and Ski Lift Trouble

Posted by Drew Zeitlin:

Hello Everybody. From time to time in abullrun land we like to take some time off from cross stitch and needlepoint and share bad, old or corny jokes mostly on twitter but we are going to share them on this blog from time to time as well. Today we have two jokes for you.

One Good Deed

A man appeared before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates.

"Have you ever done anything of particular merit"? St. Peter asked.

"Well, I can think of one thing," the man offered. "Once, on a trip to the Black Hills, out in South Dakota, I came upon a gang of bikers, who were threatening a young woman. I directed them to leave her alone, but they wouldn't listen. So, I approached the largest and most heavily tattooed biker and smacked him in his face, kicked his bike over, ripped out his nose ring and threw it on the ground. I yelled, "Now, back off or I'll ruin you all!"

St. Peter was impressed.

"When did this happen"? he asked.

"Just a couple of minutes ago."

Ski Lift Trouble

A man went on a ski trip and was knocked unconscious by the chair lift. He called his insurance company from the hospital, but it refused to cover his injury.

"Why is the injury not covered"? he asked.

"You got hit in the head by a chair lift," the insurance rep said. "That makes you an idiot and we consider that a pre-existing condition."

MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app diary day 93 Notification Feature

Posted by Drew Zeitlin:

Hello Everybody. It is time to talk baseball again at abullrun land. Today we want to talk about a great feature in the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app. We discovered it a couple of weeks ago. We know we were a little late in finding this jewel. Since we have found it, we have really liked it. It is their notifications feature and it works great. So lets pick up the diary for the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app once again. Today will be day 93.

The notification feature lets you pick your favorite teams or any team you like, well for that matter all teams that you want to follow and will give you a notification on your iPhone with a ring and little description that the team you are following, game has started and when the game ends it will notify you the final score with winning and losing pitchers. This happens whether you are on the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app or you are not. This feature helps you a lot when you are not on the app. Sometimes you forget the time or even that your team you are following is playing and the notification reminds and you can follow that game. Even though you know that game is going on but you can not follow it is great to get the notification when the game ends who won and who the winning and losing pitchers are. You are up to date just like that.

The notifications feature is in the more feature at the bottom of the page. You click on settings, then favorite teams. Once you decide on the team or teams that you want to follow you select them in our case we have selected the Colorado Rockies and the New York Yankees. Then you go into notification turn on notification and click your team below that leads you to a screen that allows you to enable alerts for game start and game end for that team. You can also enable condensed game and video highlight. If you enable these features you will be notify when these features are available on the iPhone app. We do not enable these features because we use these features in a different way and like the manual control and do not want unnecessary notification coming through the iPhone. Once the alerts are enable your done and you will start receiving them as they occur.

There you have it, another cool feature from MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app. If you like to read all the post of this diary click here and you will be taken to our blog where you will see all the post in order. Till next time.

MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app diary day 81 N.L. All Star Picks

Posted by Drew Zeitlin:

Hello Everybody. About 10 days ago we gave you our Baseball All-Star picks for the American League and today we are going to give you our picks who should start for the National League. It has been a fun first half of baseball for us this year. There seems to be a lack of posts about baseball that is because there has not been much to write about. We are in that grind where not much is happening and you are just going through the season. The MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app has made all the difference in the world. As we write this blog post we are listening to the Phillies and Yankees on that iPhone app. So lets pick up the diary for the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app once again. Today will be day 81.

For a quick review of our American League picks, we had Mauer at catcher, Cabrera at first, at second Cano, at short is Jeter, Longoria is at third, in left we had Crawford, at center Hunter, finishing the outfield in right is Bautista and at DH Guerrero. As for the National League we thought that the picks were much harder. In the American League as of this writing of this post most of our picks are matching with with what the fans are voting for at this time. In the National League very few of our picks are matching with who the fans are voting for at this time. We do like who pick and we are ready to share those picks with you.

As almost everybody does we start behind the plate. Unlike the American League nobody stood out like Joe Mauer of the Twins, but we do like what Brian McCann is doing for the Braves. At the time of this post the Braves are in first place and McCann is a big reason for that. The most obvious pick is at first base. There is a no doubter and it is Albert Pujols of the Cardinals. Although Joey Votto of the Reds is having a great season. At second base we head back over to Atlanta and pick Martin Prado. That will not be a popular pick but again he also is a big reason the Braves are in first place. At shortstop we are going with the home team and picking Troy Tulowizki of the Rockies. However we grant you that you could make a great case for Hanley Ramirez of the Marlins and Jose Uribie of the Giants. To finish out the infield we are going with Scott Rolen of the Reds. The Reds have been a big surprise this year by battling the Cardinals for first place most of the year. Rolen has been a leader and a big hitter for them.

As we head to the outfield and DH we wanted to pick a LF, CF, and RF and not just three outfielders. First up is LF and we head right back to Cincinnati with another one of their better players in Jonny Gomes. In CF we are headed back to Colorado and picking Carlos Gonzalez. He leads the Rockies in avg, hr, and rbi's. He is also playing some of the best defense a CF can play. There is a lot of ground to cover in Coors Field and he has been a big run producer and runs preventer in the National League. As we finish the outfield, our pick for RF goes to Andre Ethier of the Dodgers. Before he got hurt he was leading the NL in hitting, home runs and rbi's. There is no DH in the National League but there will be one in the All-Star game and we are going with Corey Hart of the Brewers. He only leads the National League in home runs.

There you have it, abullrun's NL starters for the 2010 mid season classic. If you disagree let us know. If you like to read all the post of this diary click here and you will be taken to our blog where you will see all the post in order. Till next time.

Cross Stitch Calculator Converter

Posted by Drew Zeitlin:

Hello Everybody. We have a fun little tool for your today. Have you ever had a cross stitch pattern that was designed for one kind of count when you wanted a different count and wish you could convert it to the count of your choosing. This little cross stitch calculator converter will help you with that task. The formula for doing this is design stitch count divided by fabric thread count equals finished size. Why pull out a pencil and paper or a calculator, when you can have this cross stitch calculator converter do all the work. To determine the finished design size for your project, enter the dimensions of the project in stitches and the fabric count and press the calculate button. It is that simple.

A quick example would be lets say that you have a cross stitch pattern that is designed in 18 count with a design size of 125W X 125H and you want the pattern in 14 count. Just enter 125 for the width and 125 for the height then enter in 14 for the count and don't forget to click inch if you wanted the design size in inches and then hit calculate and you will be given the finished size for the design in 14 count instead of 18 count. In this example you will need 8.928 x 8.928 amount of fabric to complete this design in 14 count. Remember this is the design size and you will need to add a several inches on all sides.

Cross Stitch Calculator

Design Size:

squares per

Finished Design Size
inches wide by inches high.

cm wide by cm high.

We want to thank Connie G. Barwick and Stephan Chapman at about.com for their help on this calculator.

You will be getting ready for the Christmas season. You will be going on your merrily way and then bam you remember there is no tree skirt for the tree. You think back to today and you remember that abullrun featured a gorgeous tree skirt that you could have started in June and had ready for Christmas 2010. MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app diary day 70 A.L. All Star Picks

Posted by Drew Zeitlin:

Hello Everybody. We are now about a month a way from the Baseball All-Star game. When we started this diary we were behind the eight ball with the players. It had been over twelve years since we had really followed baseball. We joked about how we knew more of the base coaches and announcers than the players. We have made great strides with the players in the first third of the season. The MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app has made all the difference in the world. As we write this blog post we are listening to the Rockies and D-backs on that iPhone app. So lets pick up the diary for the MLB.com At Bat 2010 iPhone app once again. Today will be day 70.

In our younger days we liked to pick out our all stars about 30 days before the game. So we thought we would pick up the tradition again and give our all-stars for this year about 30 days out. Today's blog post we will look at our American League picks. So here goes nothing.

We start behind the plate and pick the most obvious player for the catching position and that would be Joe Mauer of the Twins. Even though Victor Martinez of the Red Sox has better stats than Mauer, there is a big difference in defense and there just something about Mauer and we have him starting in the All-Star Game. It is a tough battle over at first base. You can make an argument for Morneau of the Twins, at the time of this writing he is only leading the league in hitting. There is also Youkils from the Red Sox and then there is Konerko from the White Sox. However we are going with Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers. Just a little more power than Morneau but you could make an argument and could change our mind. At the keystone position there is no question it has to be Robinson Cano. This guy can hit and field and he plays for the Yankees. We will be hearing a lot more from him in the future. Over at at short another no brainer and we pick future Hall of Famer Derek Jeter of the Yankees. We think everything might have been said about him. To finish out the infield we are going with Evan Longoria of the Rays. He is the best hitter on this best team as of this writing.

As we head to the outfield and DH we wanted to pick a LF, CF, and RF and not just three outfielders. First up is LF and we are going to pick who we think could be the best player in the game and that is Carl Crawford of the Rays. We might have picked him just for how many runs he prevents but he also produces runs as well. Over at CF again we looked at defense as well as hitting and we settle for Tori Hunter of the Angels. As we finish the outfield, our pick for RF goes to Jose Bautista of the Blue Jays. We know he plays a lot of games at third base but how can you deny the guy who leads the league in home runs at the time of this writing. At DH we go with Vladimir Guerrero of the Rangers. To many RBI's and very good batting avg.

There you have it, abullrun's AL starters for the 2010 mid season classic. If you disagree let us know. If you like to read all the post of this diary click here and you will be taken to our blog where you will see all the post in order. Till next time.
